Run Forest Run

I have never enjoyed running.. maybe until now. My motto used to be.. If you see me running, pick me up because someone is chasing me! Well I have this friend named Rachel, who is a running guru if I do say so myself. She ran a half marathon a couple months ago. For those who don't know how many miles that is.. it is a lot (about 13.1 miles). So needless to say she has kind of been an inspiration to me. Not to run a half marathon but to run a 5k. Which is around 3 miles.
Chris enjoys running, he ran his first 5k a couple months ago. So we decided to start running with Rachel. What was I thinking!?!? One minute her and I are running on the greenway and the next thing I know her and Chris are making arrangements to meet every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 5:00 AM!!!! Can I just say right now that I am not a morning person at all! I usually take my showers at night and wake up 10 minutes before I have to leave the house. Enough time to brush my teeth, brush my hair and put my contacts in. But.. brace yourself... I have been doing it for 3 weeks now! You should see Chris and I in the mornings driving to meet up with Rachel. He's all bright eyed and bushy tailed and I can barely keep my eyes open.
Chris is such a great encourager and keeps me going! He is always telling me how proud he is of me and to show me just how proud he was he came home from his lunch break one day with these lovelies!
I have been wanting some good running shoes and I have heard good things about Asics. Chris wears them and loves them.. so he so generously surprised me with a pair. He is the best hubster. This has been a good motivation for me to keep on keeping on. I'm starting to not hate it.. but I'm waiting to get to the point where I love it and get to experience that runner's high! Hopefully I will get there.
Thanks for stopping by everyone and happy running!

Growing Old Together One Year at a Time

When trying to decide what to do to celebrate our one year.. we both wanted something pretty low key. We decided to go to Gatlinburg, TN for a long weekend. We both wanted to visit the Ripley's Aquarium and wanted to go on a hike. . a scavenger hike that is! More on that later.

I knew that I wanted to buy a small topper cake again since we didn't freeze ours from the wedding. Don't judge.. we just couldn't stop eating it! If you had a piece of a cake made by katycake you would have done the same. So I surprised Chris with a strawberry cake that was just as scrumptious as it was the year before.

And here she is in all her glory. . even with a glowing light behind her! Okay I know it's the lamp. . just go with it. (Good positioning Chris)

I also made Chris some oreo balls that he recently fell in love with. It's such a simple recipe and thank you to Amanda for sharing it with us. All you do is crush a pack of oreos and mix with one package of cream cheese then you form them into balls and throw them into the freezer. After they harden you dip them in white chocolate and refrigerate. They are delish!

Now for the gifts.. well there weren't supposed to be any. We told each other that the trip was our present to each other.. but even though we say this it rarely works that way. I made Chris a map cork board. I cut the map out of an atlas and I glued cork board to the backing of a picture frame and then I glued the map to the cork board. I put the backing into the frame and left off the glass. I put a pin in each of the places we have been together and told him I am looking forward to adding a pin to all the other places we will visit in the future! I know.. I love it! And it was a diy project so it didn't cost a penny. I already had all the supplies I needed. So I didn't really fib when I told Chris I wasn't going to buy him anything.. right?  except for the cake! but hey he cheated too!
Since the traditional 1st year anniversary is paper.. he got me the sweetest card, wrote the sweetest poem and put some sweet moolah in there!
He also took me out to dinner to wherever I chose. He is the best :)
While we were there we also did a scavenger hunt hike. We have had this book called Scavenger Hike Adventures by Kat and John Lafevre and have always wanted to try one. Most of the hikes are near Gatlinburg so we thought this was a good opportunity to try one out. We found a hike in the book that looked fun (bud "ogle" farm) and plugged it into our Tom Tom. During the hike you have certain items to look for. It is so fun. Here are a few pictures showing our treasures that we found! We did pretty well if I do say so myself.
These trees were damaged years ago by a bad blight.
 twin twees
This was the rock wall that the pioneers had made back in the day

 wall of roots
 drive through barn
This was granny's window. She would shoot the critters getting into her garden right out of this little window!
This was where the "weiner cabin" once stood. Weird!

It was tons of fun and way more interesting than just a regular old hike.. although I love those too.

Okay next on the list! CAKE SMASH

Yeah.. Chris was pretty aggressive.. he took advantage of the fact that I dropped a crumb on the bed.. I was going to pick it up and he went in for the kill. Cheap shot! I think I'm pretty glad we didn't do this in my wedding dress.. but it sure was fun one year later.

Here was a night out to TGI Friday's..and walking the strip. We ended this night by playing cards out on our balcony.
Okay last adventure.. I promise! Ripley's Aquarium.

All-in-all it was the best one year celebration a girl like me could ask for! Thanks babes for spoiling me the way you do.. I definitely do not deserve it!

Whew.. I'm finally finished. I am pretty surprised you are actually still reading! Thanks so much for stopping by! <3

So Much to Tell

I really don't know why I didn't start this blog earlier.. but there are so many things I want to catch you up on. So I'm going to back track a little and I'm pretty excited about it!
Let's start off with mine and Chris' trip to the Biltmore House in Asheville. We were able to get a discount on the tickets through Chris' work and since Chris had never been and I was about 10 since the last time I had visited.. we jumped on the opportunity. For those who don't know what the Biltmore House is.. let me explain. This is a mansion that George Vanderbilt built in 1895 on 8,000 acres. This estate is still family owned and open to the public.  Gorgeous right?! You should see it during Christmas time with all the lights. .
So here are a couple pics we took through out the day. We weren't allowed to photograph inside the house but there is plenty of pretty scenery outside to share with you. Hope you enjoy!

Beautiful flower gardens

After Chris took this picture he said, "I call this the Busy Bee". He's adorable.. I know!

Throwing petals is always a fun thing to do
Heading to the farm on the property. Probably my favorite part, besides the cookie dough ice cream Chris bought me from the creamery. Hmm hmm
 I sure do love horses!
Meet Bert.. he's 22 years old but he's still a ladies man

Best pic of the day. . Love it!

Okay so maybe we didn't take tons of pictures of the beautiful scenery. A couple flowers and some horses is all I got! You will just have to go visit to see for yourself :)
Next catch up will be on our one year! I can't believe it's been that long.. whew time flies.

Two Bare Feet on the Dashboard

Our vacation to Florida was so nice! We drove down on the 1st and stayed until the 10th. We decided to bring the pup along.. and she did so good! We were able to stop in Jacksonville and stay the night with my grandparents to break up the drive. The next morning we drove the rest of the way to Port St. Lucie. While down there we were able to attend our little niece's baptism and Chris' cousin's wedding. I was also able to throw a 31 party at my sister-in-laws, and celebrate the 4th with our family. So many festivities! And of course we had our game nights with Chris' mom and dad and sis.. playing set back was the name of the game on this trip!

Here are some pics to show a little bit of the fun we had while in PSL!

For the 4th we were able to watch the fireworks over the river! So much fun.
I know.. we aren't dressed very patriotically.. we will work on that next 4th.

Next we enjoyed a fun day at the beach fishing with the pups and Chris' brother and wife.I know this will be a big surprise.. but we found another little furry friend who's energy level surpasses Cali's by a mile! I know.. crazy.

While transporting these golden pups to the beach.. our little one decided to be brave and put her paws on the side of the truck while standing up. She was a rookie at this particular activity and slipped right out of the truck! Fortunately we were at a red light and Chris immediately hopped out to put her back in the truck before she hung herself! I bet she will never pull that trick again! Scary stuff.

And can I just go ahead and tell you that these next few pictures do not come close to capturing how sweet these two nieces of mine are! I loved every second I was able to spend with them.

Along with spending every day with this handsome fellow.

And another fun day at the beach with Maddy before the wedding. Last day before heading back to the mountains. *bittersweet*
